Rejection of Bedugul Geothermal Project

The government of Bali has stated publicly that he will refuse the Bedugul geothermal exploration.

Based on an ecological study conducted by the office, they reject the official project because Bedugul is a protected forest area with a major geological position on the island. If the exploration is forced, it will damage the ecosystem and disrupt the geological structure. The rejection is for ecological reasons, based on the study of the forestry office, and not because of pressure from the Balinese people. Previously, the Department of Energy has published data identifying 28 potential points that could be explored in the protected forest areas throughout Indonesia, including Bedugul. A geothermal project in Bedugul could potentially generate 175 megawatts of electricity.
