No smoking in public places

The provincial government of Bali has just passed new laws on where smoking is allowed, with severe penalties for offenders.

Under the new law, smoking will be prohibited in  tourism centers, hotels, schools, government offices, recreation centers, health centers, airports, markets and public transport. Advertisements for tobacco products will also be prohibited in these areas. The law has severe penalties, violations of smoking can lead to penalties of up to six months imprisonment or a fine of Rp 50 million. It is not known yet when the law comes into force, but a decision is expected soon. A similar regulation was adopted in Jakarta, but enforcement was lax.
