Drought affects Tabanan

Hundreds of hectares of rice fields in the Selemadeg District of Tabanan, Bali are in drought and farmers are struggling to cultivate their land.

One farmer in Subak Aseman, Wayan Sudiana, 42, admitted that he can’t begin to plant rice on his rice field which is 2,800 square meters because of the shortage of water. Half of the roughly 500 hectares of rice fields in subak Aseman, are in a water crisis situation this year. The majority of the fields get their water from the Tunjung dam. The water crisis has already been affecting the area for some time, and they can only harvest once a year while normally the fields can be harvested three times a year.
