Coffee Exports Drop in 2011

Coffee production in Bali slumped last year. There had been a 5% drop in production of Arabica beans in 2011 compared to amounts harvested in 2010.

A total of 3080 tons of Arabica had been harvested last year, down from 3245 the year before. This was despite an increase in the area of land cultivated in the main Kintamani coffee-growing region, part of Bali’s mountainous hinterland where 80% of coffee crops are raised. Coffee plantations in Kintamani now covered a total 10,485 hectares, up from 9448 hectares in 2010. Despite the plantation-land expansion, the increased production is expected only three years after planting.
