Bali get bus rapid transit network

Bali get its first taste of a bus rapid transit service with the operation of the Trans Sarbagita.

The public transportation system is expected to eventually connect Denpasar to Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan regencies and to provide a concrete solution to the island’s chronic traffic problems. Initially, the network will serve only two routes. The first route runs from Gianyar’s Batubulan terminal and passes Tohpati, Bypass Ngurah Rai Sanur highway, Dewa Ruci intersection, Sunset Road, and ends at Kuta’s central parking facility. The second route starts at Kuta’s central parking facility and passes Sunset Road, Dewa Ruci intersection, Bypass Ngurah Rai Kuta highway and ends at Nusa Dua. The two routes are infamous for their severe traffic congestion and are not served by regular public transportation vehicles. The routes are also known as tourism routes, connecting the island’s sole airport with four major tourist destinations — Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur and Ubud in Gianyar. Each bus can carry 60 passengers, 20 standing. All buses are air-conditioned and each bus will be staffed with a driver and a female conductor, both well trained in providing quality service to passengers. Tickets cost Rp 3,500 (41 US cents) for a single trip on any of the routes and a discounted ticket price of Rp 2,500 for students.
